As soon as I hit “publish post”, I’ll officially be a blogger. Weird. Although I’ll admit that I’m one of those 20-something “post my every thought on Twitter and Facebook” addicts, I would never categorize myself as a the creative, musing, blogger type. But one day, 6 weeks ago, I changed my mind.
Here’s what happened:
I competed in a fitness challenge and posted this before & after photo on my Facebook:
I was really nervous to put myself out there but had to do it in order to submit my entry for the contest. To my surprise, I instantly received the most heart-warming feedback from family & friends (we’re talking 210+ likes & 40+ comments in just 24 hours!). As I sifted through the “Way to go!”‘s and “Congrats!”‘s, I noticed that several people asked me to share how I made the transformation. What were my workouts? What was I eating? How did I stay motivated? I felt an overwhelming desire to share my story so that others could experience, achieve and feel what I do right now. All I needed was a channel – so blogging it is!
Here’s why I started SHE.STRONG:
1. I respect women who encourage other women. How many times have I felt negative energy by comparing myself to another woman or envying her success in fitness, her career or life in general? I can’t tell you an exact number, but it’s probably pretty close to the “guess how many jelly beans are in the barrel” game they play at fundraisers! A mantra that I absolutely adore is the concept of Ubuntu: “A person with Ubuntu is open and available to others, affirming of others, does not feel threatened that others are able and good, for he or she has a proper self-assurance that comes from knowing that he or she belongs in a greater whole.” In sum, I celebrate the success of others because it generates positivity for all of us.
2. Women should celebrate STRENGTH! Yes, this blog will primarily focus on my fitness journey (which is a huge advocate for lifting weights instead of just being a cardio junkie!) but I also plan to highlight the wonder of those life experiences that strengthen who we are as human beings.
Synopsis: SHE.STRONG will be a voice for sculpting muscle of the body and soul.
